Vintage Clothes Shopping In Dublin
If you know me by now you will know that I love to look a little different and also have very cool, quirky items when working with my models for photoshoots. With a keen eye and the weather looking grim on a trip to Dublin recently this offered the ideal opportunity for something a little more fun than trudging about with a damp lens. Vintage clothes shopping in Dublin, or more to the point photographic clothes shopping for my portfolio sessions I hold for models, actors and artists....aka Heaven!
So as soon as we landed in wet and windy Dublin I made sure we jumped in a cab and headed straight to the Powerscourt Centre to a little vintage store called Jean Cronin my fashion stylist friend Courtney Smith advised me about prior to our trip. Can you see i had this planned for weeks before we even took off!
My feet didn't have a moment to even appreciate the cobbles as I was on a pure mission to find hidden treasures at Jean's
A quick obligatory outfit snap before the real indulgent, photographic fashion frenzy and vintage styling ideas could commence!
Many of you will admire the outfits, accessories and locations on the cover of beautiful glossy magazines you see on the shelves at the supermarket, but the effort that goes into those images, covers and editorial features go unnoticed all too often. How many of you look at the descriptions, names of stylist's, makeup artists, photographers, manicurists and who's involved in the overall photoshoot? And who see the words "stylist's own" when seeing a stunning necklaces, rings or even a dress in an editorial feature or cover shoot and fall in love with something? Thats because a lot of the time these things are sourced from thrift shops, vintage boutiques and second hand stores and owned and cherished by stylists. I'm not just a photographer but also a treasure hunter. I make it part of my job to find hidden objects of desire and bring them back to life within my photography.
Vintage, thrift and second hand and words like these are music to my ears, as I love a really good afternoon submersing myself in such places for my art.

Photographic styling is one area of my work I rarely talk about here on my blog as it's just something I love to do and didn't think it was that engaging. But I was pushed to write this very post by a friend called Michelle a few years ago. She said to me...."Sarah you really are an inspiration and need to chat about the process of your photographic styling work on your blog more. Its so enthralling, mind blowing and imaginative how you visualise a photoshoot" just do it! So Mrs Urry....I have finally listened to you and I'm now going to do loads of behind the scenes on all areas of my work!
I find searching through vintage boutiques, second hand shops and thrift stores more exciting than regular retail outlets. The items have such a wonderful history all of their own, and for me to rekindle their light is so valuable. To create another enchanting story that can capture an items beauty is so much more appealing than any throw away fashion garment. A moment in time recreated for the future. It's seriously addictive and my collection keeps growing now I have discovered Jean's boutique. The fact that she's said she will ship to me for photoshoots has made my year!
I ask you to do one thing this week, and that's have a little look through your local charity or vintage shop for hidden gems. You really never know what you will find! You might also come across something so special it could take your breath away. One persons unwanted 30's beaded necklace, silk blouse, rare kaftan or exuisite dress could be on the cover of Vogue next time you pick up your glossy coffee table magazine! Or it could be purchased by me for an incredible portrait, portfolio shoot with you! You just never know.....
I hope you have loved today's different, more personal and heartfelt blog post!
